happeninginhilofetureadimageWelina kakou! It’s been such an exciting time for us this year. Just as our Hawai’i Island is seeing new growth by way of Pele’s recent active lava flowDestination Hilo has also been experiencing new growth in the community through our cultural grant projects, growing memberships and collaborative partnerships.

After 30 plus years, our flagship service, the Pier Greetings Program, continues to serve as the welcoming host for all of our cruise ship visitors at the pier.

We’ve seen in-house growth with the promotion of our new Event Coordinator who organizes our signature HILO HULA TUESDAYS – A wonderful mix of music, culture and hula.

We also contracted a new Program Manager who runs our Aloha Ambassador program, a volunteer service that serves as a gateway for visitors–offering information, resources and services. Our Cultural Director continues to nurture and network our cultural practitioner resources. She’s also been busy in working together with a new website development team to revamp our website and build a stronger online presence for Destination Hilo.

Through cooperative engagement, our Board President has collaborated our resources to participate in community events like Aloha First Friday and the yearly PEACE FESTIVAL. Planning was facilitated for our Annual Board & Membership Meeting to be held at Hilo Hawaiian Hotel in October.
